Scammers have used this number and 03 8547 9534 today to try and call my number - note that the two groups of 4 digits after the area code are simply reversed. This is another sign of fake numbers, when they don't put much effort into making them seem random. Maybe they think if we see something like "1234" we assume it is a real business.
Every afternoon at about 7.30 pm AEDT I get 2 calls from fake landline numbers, usually with 02 or 03 area codes, or sometimes 07. I don't live in NSW, Victoria or QLD so I simply block all numbers starting with those area codes. Unfortunately the scammers receive a recorded message the number is unavailable, but not that it's disconnected, so I think they can tell it's a real number and they simply try again. But if you block every call every time for long enough, like months, they eventually slow down and then finally give up. You have to block EVERY call though or their system simply flags your number as Live and keeps you on the list.
The best option is a call blocker app for mobile phones. You can buy call blocker devices for a landline phone too. I just block any number not in my contacts list, or send to voicemail, and it doesn't even ring! Peace at last. They're still trying but they do eventually give up - the problem is that I later let my number get out on a Gumtree ad so they started trying again, but they can't get through.
