    Number came up as 061395176014 - I guess they are routing the number from outside Australia? Looked weird so I didn't answer - and checked here to find it's cold-calling consultants from India.... Thanks but no thanks....

    Called me and hanged up when I picked up, looks like some scam, generally when I get a call from Melbourne it comes up as 0395176014 on my phone but this one came up as 061395176014 (including country code) which is weird.

    Used by an Indian survey company.

    They try to configure their outgoing calls to display this number to pretend it is from a local number.

    Supposedly they were doing a survey on behalf of Monash University.

    Number came in as +613 9517 6014, no reply when I answered it, then a message came up on my mobile Not Allowed so I don't know if Optus have a spam filter but have entered this number as dodgy and won't answer it again. Lately I have been giving phone scammers a burst because of their lack of inventiveness in continuing to pursue this lame attempt to fleece folk. Dickheads.

    Its a company doing market research. The reason they allow the call to be answered before hanging up is to increase their numbers for their clients. If you call the line that they call you from its a message with a full message bank from other disgruntled people. If you call them directly though on 8809 5333 you can actually abuse them directly.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
