I was also called by this number, with the same message which I missed; the thing is, I DO have a passport application pending. I haven’t been able to get onto the passport office via their official number, nor this one. It’s hard to know whether it’s just inept customer service (resembling a scam); or an actual scam.

They told me that the Australian Passport Office do NOT call people unless there is a pending application for a passport and they need more information to process it.
