Identifying the Threat: What to Know About 03 9070 3535
In today's digital age, phone scams have become increasingly sophisticated, leading to unsuspecting individuals being misled by fraudulent calls and messages. One such number that has raised alarm among users is 03 9070 3535. Reports suggest that this number has been associated with a scam impersonating Westpac, one of Australia's major banks. This article dives into the details of this suspicious number, how the scam operates, and the best practices to stay safe.
A Deep Dive into the Reported Scam
Users have indicated that messages originating from this number mimic Westpac's legitimate communications. As noted in a report from 10 January 2023, a user received a message stating that a “standing order” for a significant amount of money was stopped for security reasons, urging the recipient to call 03 9070 3535 / 0390703535 if they did not authorise the transaction. This tactic of creating a sense of urgency is common in scams, aiming to push individuals into acting quickly without verifying details.
Upon reaching out to the number in question, the user experienced a troubling outcome: the call did not connect at all. This points towards a cleverly designed ruse where the scammers hope to exploit the trust associated with Westpac. Importantly, their follow-up conversation with the legitimate Westpac inquiry number confirmed that no such transaction or block had occurred, suggesting that this is indeed a scam.

What Our Users Reviewed
I had a message on my phone today which came through Westpac's usual messages, saying 'a 'standing order' for $4000 to Muhammad Ahmed has been stopped for security reasons. If this was NOT you please call us on 0390703535.'
I checked the number through Reverse AU where there were no scan reports but 8 enquires that day. I rang the number but it did not connect, nothing at all. I then rang Westpac on their enquiries number and there was no stoppage anywhere on any payment from my accounts. I am treating it as a scam but the concerning thing is that it came from the same message account as our normal Westpac notifications.
