Please do not confirm any details with them or pay them any money. Completely fraudulent group. Ask questions of them - they cannot answer them.
Legit ATO collection agency called Probe - [link].
Called the tax office today, they had no record of trying to get in touch with me, don't know the number and have recorded it as a scam.
Note: whenever someone calls and asks for your own details, tell them to get lost. No bank or government department should be calling you asking you for your details.
This is actually the tax office. It is not a scam. I rang the tax office and turns out it is legitimate.
This number called and left a message. They claimed to be from the ATO. They used my maiden name (I've been married 5 years) and were asking for my husband (used his name) to call them back.
We do our taxes every year. The ATO have all of our correct details, including my married name and hubby's mobile number to get in touch with him personally. Scammers!!
This number was left on a phone message, stating that they were the ato and legal action would be taken against us (although they did not reference our name) and that if we didn't call back, legal action would be taken against us, possibly of a sensitive nature.
I feel this is a SCAM!
With the feedback previously given surely the government department can look into the integrity of this phone number and its claims.
They say they are from the Probe Group, but who can be sure. The Probe Group are debt collector for the ATO.
