Analysis of User Reports

Through user feedback, consistent patterns are observable, aligning with common elements of a scam call. As reported on 11 August 2015, the call originated from someone claiming to seek a quote, which initially implies a legitimate business inquiry. However, the accent suggesting a Philippine call centre, coupled with background noise, flags potential red flags. The individual’s subsequent confusion regarding the area code strongly indicates a lack of credibility.

Another user reiterated these concerns in April 2016, reaffirming the conclusion made by the first reviewer, solidifying the notion that this number is likely operated by scammers looking to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

Type of Scam Involved

This situation exemplifies a prevalent type of telemarketing scam where callers pose as potential customers. Their approach often includes asking detailed questions persuasively to affirm their alleged intent, all while attempting to gauge interest or leverage personal information unwittingly. Given their tendency to mislead by representing a different geographical location, one might easily be lured into providing sensitive data.

Received a call today purporting to be a potential customer looking for a quote, but it sounded like a Philipino call centre from her accent and voices in the background, obviously on the phone.

Asked a lot of detailed questions that struck me as strange and claimed to be calling from Bayswater in Perth, but when I mentioned the 03 prefix, which would indicate a Melbourne number, she hesitated momentarily saying "Noooo, umm, I'm in WA". Sounded surprised as if she'd been caught out.

On calling the number back, I got an international ring tone which pretty much confirmed my suspicions.
