Definitely a scam number! Received a payment request through PayPal for $899. Logged onto my PayPal account and there it was - I was a bit 'blinded' by the fact that this actually was on my PayPal account and then stupidly followed the instructions on the 'Notes from Sender' - this is a request for bitcoin purchase. If you have not made this transaction please call our fraud team to cancel this transaction at 03 9016 4300 - totally forgot the fact that these notes are always entered by the Sender and not PayPal. Anyway I rang the number - and yes - I followed instructions until they requested remote access to my computer. The scammer actually also said that it is a scam but it would take 12 hours to fix my PayPal account so do not log onto your PayPal account to change the password until 12 hours expire. This is when I got SUSS. I concluded the call then properly googled the transaction dispute number for PayPal. In a 10 minute window between hanging up from the scammer and contacting the legitimate PayPal people, my PayPal account had a further 43 payment requests for $899 ($38657 in total). Anyway PayPal fixed it all up BUT DO NOT EVER RING THE NUMBER OF 03 9016 4300!

I received a text alert saying a PayPal request had been received seeking $899.99 AUD from a Catherine Jones (I rarely use Pay Payl) with a link to pay - immediately I thought 'scam'

I logged into my PayPal account and the transaction was there but it said, if you have not authorised this, contact our Fraud Team on 03 9016 4300. I rang them. The guy sounded quite legitimate.. Then he said we would need to deactivate my account and asked me to download 'Anydesk' app - I asked why he required remote access, couldn't I just cancel the transaction? He said it was required to connect with their customer support team to deactivate the pay pal account and process the reversal.

I felt a bit suss - so I googled the number while on the phone to him and told him my internet connection was bad so I couldn't get the app open yet... I found this review and immediately said 'oh look it's fine I'll just do it myself and call the Bank to cancel any transactions' and he hung up on me..

THAT WAS SO CLOSE - Be alert people!! God I hate these jerks..
