Understanding the 03 9015 9333 / 0390159333 Scam

The phone number 03 9015 9333 / 0390159333 has recently been flagged as a potential scam source by users across Australia. Based on user reports, this number is connected to fraudulent calls and phishing attempts masquerading as legitimate subscription services, notably targeting those who do not own a McAfee product.

Nature of the Scam

Several reports indicate that individuals were contacted under the guise of informing them about bogus subscriptions to McAfee Antivirus. Users receiving these calls mentioned receiving emails stating that their subscriptions had been automatically renewed and debited from their accounts. A common tactic employed by scammers is to leverage legitimate-sounding business names to encourage their victims to interact with them. In this case, the absence of any real subscription raises red flags about the legitimacy of these communications.

Identifying the Fraud

  • Unsolicited Calls and Emails: If you receive calls or emails from this number regarding services you have never signed up for, it is highly likely to be a scam.
  • Requests for Immediate Action: Scammers often try to create a sense of urgency—such as hinting that you will lose money or access to a service unless you act quickly.
  • Untraceable Payments: As consumers reported, they could not find any charges from the service mentioned, which is a clear indication that the callers are hoping to obtain sensitive information or money without any justifiable cause.

How Should You Respond?

If you find yourself on the receiving end of a call from 03 9015 9333 / 0390159333, it’s advisable to follow these steps:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid answering the call or responding to any emails connected to this number.
  • Report the Scam: Consider reporting this number to authorities such as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
  • Utilise Reverse Phone Lookup Tools: Consider using services like Reverseau or Reverse Phone Lookup Australia to check the legitimacy of unknown numbers.

Remember, remaining vigilant against such scams is your best defence. Always verify any unsolicited calls and emails thoroughly to protect your personal information and financial security.

Have received two emails in past 14 days stating that my subscription for my "Mcaffee Antivirus" (which I do not have), had been automatically re-purchased and already debited from my account for $229 and if I wanted to cancel and receive a refund to contact them on +61 (03)-9015-7962. I obviously checked my bank account and there is no listing for anything being deducted and won't be calling this number. Don't know how they got my Email Address but they are Scammers!

Received a voicemail from a man (maybe middle aged, Australian english sounding) saying "It is what it is, my boy, it is what it is" as a young female this is a little terrifying and the only thing I can hope is that it's a wrong number. Upon googling, the number is associated with a landscape company based out of Melbourne. I am based in Queensland..
