Understanding the Risk of 03 9013 5689

In recent reports, the phone number 03 9013 5689 / 0390135689 has surfaced as a prominent player in the world of telephonic scams. Users have identified this number as fraudulent, primarily involving individuals masquerading as representatives from Telstra, one of Australia’s leading telecommunications providers. This article aims to dissect the details surrounding these claims, the nature of the scam, and how you should react if you receive a call from this number.

Reported Scam Details

On 30th October 2018, a user shared a harrowing experience they had with the callers from this number. The situation unfolded when the caller claimed there had been suspicious activity on the victim's account, urging them to grant access to their computer. Such tactics are classic examples of a “tech support scam,” where fraudsters attempt to gain control over your device, offering dubious “fixes” for non-existent problems.

Why You Should Be Cautious

Firstly, legitimate companies like Telstra do not request access to your computer in unsolicited phone calls. If you ever receive a call from someone claiming to be from Telstra, it is vital to remain critical and cautious. In this case, when challenged to provide a callback number, the caller resorted to deception, providing a false identity and another scammer posing as a reception for further verification. This deceit underscores the necessity for vigilance when handling unexpected calls.

How to Handle Calls from 03 9013 5689

  • Do Not Engage: If the caller requests sensitive information or access to your computer, hang up immediately.
  • Do Not Call Back: Calling back on a number provided by a potential scammer only strengthens their scheme.
  • Report the Call: Notify the authorities or services such as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). Reports can help track these scams more effectively.
  • Utilise Reverseau: If in doubt, use Reverseau or other reverse phone lookup services in Australia to help identify unknown numbers before proceeding with conversations.

In summary, 03 9013 5689 / 0390135689 has been classified as a scam number based on user experiences and reports within the community. Awareness and diligence are your best defences against such telephonic deceptions. Protect yourself and others by spreading the word about such scams and utilising reverse phone lookup resources to clarify unknown calls.

Scammers! They tried to say they were Telstra and asked me to give them access to my computer saying that people had been trying to hack my account. When I became suspicious I asked them to give me a number I could call them back on and the guy gave me a (fake) name and even his ID number as wel as this landline to call back on. When I called back his "reception" scammer friend said he was from Telstra.

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!
