This is a common tactic used by scammers to instill fear and manipulate unsuspecting victims.

Why Is This Number Classified as a Scam?

The recurring pattern in user reports indicates a clear intent to deceive. Those who have encountered the call describe an automated voice message detailing elaborate threats regarding legal action. Here’s a breakdown of the scam characteristics:

  • Impersonation: The caller claims to represent a legitimate government agency, the ATO, in an attempt to gain trust.
  • Threatening Language: Messages create a sense of urgency and panic by mentioning arrest warrants, which is a powerful psychological tool in scams.
  • Automated System: Using pre-recorded messages allows scammers to reach numerous individuals simultaneously, increasing their chances of success.

What Should You Do If You Receive a Call from This Number?

If you find yourself receiving a call from 03 9013 5168 / 0390135168 or have already answered it, here are some essential steps to protect yourself:

  • Do Not Return Calls: Never call back a number that threatens you, especially one that appears to be associated with a governmental authority.
