    Indian woman claimed to be from Telstra and was calling to check whether I placed an order for an iPhone 12. I said I did not and it should be cancelled. She asked me to verify my identity and I said I wouldn't as if she was from Telstra she would already know. She got more and more shouty and I hang up on her. Very dodgy!

    SCAM. Person claiming to be from Telstra, calling to verify my account as they suspect it’s being hacked. I called Telstra myself to confirm it is a scam.

    Claiming to be Telstra say order was placed by someone and wanted to approve order.

    I questioned them to who they were after… lucky for me it’s a work phone and they could not telling me who they were trying to contact. They stumbled and apologised.

    Beware and don’t get caught out.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
