    Indian female calls stating she is from Telstra confirming my new iPhone order. Asks many questions seeking personal information.

    Telstra can actually block these fake numbers but do not because they make a lot of money out of the scammers.

    The problem is I don't have a mobile telephone account with Telstra.

    A lady Calls claiming to be from Telstra and before verifying any account details she asks if you ordered anything. When you say “no” she goes onto say she will cancel the order.

    She will continue to call until she gets enough information to do god knows what with your account. Do Not Share ANY information with this number. When I checked my account I found an unfamiliar address and email as well as orders pending.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
