    Just received a Telstra text with a PIN then straight after a phone call from 03 9005 4915. Said they were from Telstra and that I had been picked as a customer to receive 30% for the next 6 months. She then asked me the PIN. I refused to give it to her and told her I would contact Telstra myself to verify this promotion. Asked for a reference number. She gave me 0390695468. This didn't look like a Telstra ref number I previously received.

    I called Telstra and they confirmed this was not them.

    Clever attempt since I received that PIN number before the call.

    Beware!

    They were able to send a meesage to me from Telstra with a PIN attached and asked for it after calling me on this number. When I asked them to prove they are from Telstra they hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
