Suspicious Activity Reports for 03 8803 9900

The Melbourne-based number 03 8803 9900 (also written as 0388039900) has attracted six community reports with mixed legitimacy signals. While one contributor confirmed a genuine membership call, the majority describe suspicious behaviour including repeated hang-ups, no voicemail left, and cross-state dialling patterns that raise concerns.

The most distinctive report involves a woman answering after two calls from 03 8803 9900, stating an unclear name before claiming "wrong number" and hanging up. This pattern - multiple attempts followed by a brief conversation and abrupt disconnect - appears in contributors' descriptions and differs from typical legitimate business calls.

What Callers from 03 8803 9900 Do

Contributors report two distinct call behaviours from 0388039900. One pattern involves multiple hang-up calls with no voicemail left, suggesting automated or test calling rather than genuine contact attempts. A second pattern shows the number calling twice, with the second call answered by a woman who provided an unclear name before claiming the call was misdirected.

The cross-state element stands out in reports about 03 8803 9900. One contributor in Perth received calls from this Melbourne number displaying "Melbourne" on caller ID, which is unusual for routine legitimate calls. Contributors describe the calls as feeling "scammer-like" based on the no-message hang-ups and the vague interaction when answered.

Call Patterns Reported

Reports about 03 8803 9900 span several months (from August 2025 to January 2026), indicating ongoing activity rather than a one-off incident. The mix of answered and missed calls suggests persistence - multiple attempts to reach recipients. One report specifically notes the call came at 7 am, which contributors found disruptive given personal circumstances.

The allocation data shows 0388039900 is registered as a local-service number with Optus Networks in Victoria, which makes the cross-state calling pattern less clear - legitimate Victorian businesses do call interstate regularly, but the hang-ups and vague interaction when answered support contributors' suspicious assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 03 8803 9900 a legitimate business number?

Mixed signals. One contributor confirmed a genuine membership-related call from 03 8803 9900, but the majority of reports describe suspicious behaviour including hang-ups without voicemail and vague interactions. The legitimate report suggests 0388039900 may be used by a real business, but several contributors suspect scam activity. Check independently if you need to confirm the caller's identity.

Why did the caller from 03 8803 9900 hang up after saying 'wrong number'?

One contributor answered 03 8803 9900 on the second call attempt and reached a woman who stated an unclear name before claiming it was a wrong number and disconnecting. This pattern - multiple call attempts followed by a brief vague interaction - can indicate testing of active numbers by scammers or potential data harvesting. Legitimate businesses typically leave voicemail if reaching a wrong number.

What does it mean that 03 8803 9900 called from Melbourne to Perth?

The caller ID showed Melbourne even though the recipient was in Perth. While legitimate Victorian businesses do call interstate, the combination of cross-state calling plus hang-ups without voicemail raised a contributor's suspicions. This pattern can indicate spoofed caller ID or automated systems. Always verify a caller's identity through official channels before trusting the number.

Should I call 0388039900 back if it calls me?

Not recommended without verification. Reports of 0388039900 include multiple hang-ups and unclear interactions. If you need to contact this number, first look up the business independently using official sources (website, ABN lookup, phone directory) rather than calling back the number that contacted you. This prevents confirming your number to scammers.

How many times has 03 8803 9900 been reported as suspicious?

Three reports describe suspicious activity from 03 8803 9900 (hang-ups with no message, multiple calls, and fraud concerns), while one report confirms a legitimate call. Two additional reports are marked uncertain. The majority pattern suggests caution, particularly given the hang-up behaviour and vague interaction reported.

Can I block 03 8803 9900 on my phone?

Yes. Most Australian phones allow you to block specific numbers. Add 03 8803 9900 or 0388039900 to your blocked list in your phone's settings. Additionally, you can report the number to ACMA at acma.gov.au so the pattern is tracked nationally. Your phone provider (Optus, Telstra, Vodafone, etc.) may also offer call-blocking services.
