The number 03 8709 2345 / 0387092345 has raised alarm bells among users, who have characterised it as suspicious. Reports indicate it may be an impersonation scam related to the National Broadband Network (NBN), targeting vulnerable individuals. Understanding how to navigate these kinds of calls is imperative for protecting yourself from potential fraud.

One notable incident involved a user’s elderly mother-in-law receiving a call from this number, with the caller claiming to be from the NBN and insisting there was an urgent problem that required her to start her computer. When the family member took over the call, the individual on the line displayed rudeness and defensiveness, continually urging compliance without providing satisfactory answers.

This type of scenario is characteristic of a common scam technique, where impersonators pose as legitimate companies, such as the NBN, creating a facade of urgency to extract personal information or even gain remote access to a victim's computer. Given the context, it's a clear indication of a scam, designed to prey on those who may be less tech-savvy or vigilant, like the elderly.

So how should you handle such calls? Here are some tips:

  • Do not engage: If you answer a call from this number or any similar suspicious number, refrain from providing any personal information.
  • Ask questions: Legitimate companies will be willing to provide verifiable information. If the caller becomes agitated when pressed for details, be sceptical.
  • Hang up: If you feel uncomfortable or if things seem off, don’t hesitate to end the call.
  • Report it: Notify authorities or report the number via services like Reverseau or similar platforms that offer a Reverse Phone Lookup in Australia.

In conclusion, while the number 03 8709 2345 / 0387092345 may seem like an ordinary dialing sequence, many users have raised alarms about its dubiousness. Always remember, staying informed and cautious is your first line of defence against scams. If you suspect a call might be a scam, trust your instincts and take appropriate measures to safeguard your personal information.

My elderly motherinlaw received a call from this number saying he was from the National Broadband Network and there is a problem and she has to start her computer. She passed the phone to me and he would not answer my questions, very rude and kept saying " just listen "

This was directly after I was speaking to someone from overseas from Optus about ripping off elderly people.

Coincidence??
