What Our Users Reviewed
This is definitely a scam. They called, and when I checked with ANZ about any fraud, they said there was nothing reported. Don’t get sucked in by their sneaky phone numbers!
Had a rough day with this dodgy number, 03 8693 5077, calling me five times on the 4th of November, claiming to be ANZ and begging for my credit card info. As soon as I threatened to ring the police on their sorry backside for harassment, they finally stopped ringing. Sketchy as!
They claimed to be from the ANZ fraud department, but guess what? I called ANZ directly, and they said it’s gotta be a scam. Not cool at all!
This Scam is Alive and Well. I received three calls from two different Sydney (02) Numbers, one minute apart before I answered. The caller claimed to be from Amex Fraud department. He had my first and last name and phone No. Like the other events listed here, the claim was that my card had been used seven times that day in New Zealand for a total of $3000+ and was I in NZ. He said that he had 'blocked' the card and needed to verify some of my details. When I said that I would ring Amex direct, he gave me a Reference No. And said that I should ring back and quote that No. When I rang AMEX, they said that they had not contacted me, there were no suspicious transactions on my card and that they NEVER ring, rather they send SMS and Emails if there is a concern. Given that no personal data had been given to the scammer, there was no problem. While I was talking to AMEX, the scammer tried to ring eight times in quick succession, all of which I cancelled and subsequently blocked. Not to be outdone the scammer then called three more times from this Melbourne number. Also cancelled and blocked.
This number rang four times in succession, and I eventually answered. They purported to be from my bank and advised they were calling about a fraudulent transaction on my credit card. It sounded very legitimate to start with, however when I said I would call back the bank to verify, the caller got angry. Be careful.
