How the Scam Works
According to user reviews, the callers often speak with an English accent and display alarming knowledge of personal information, such as the last four digits of a caller's card number and home address. I just received the same call as other have written. Claiming to be from the NAB fraud Department. They knew the last 4 digits of my card number and also my address. They stated that someone had applied for a credit card under my name and also attempted a number of suspicious withdrawals from my debit card which the were now all on a Preauthorised hold. They wanted to cancel my existing card and set me up with a new card once they asked some further questions. They never asked me qualifying questions to confirm my identity which was the first alarm. I rung the NAB who could see no such activity, my cards have now been cancelled, new ones issues. Better luck next time thieves.
