NAB Impersonation Scam Reports for 03 8641 9083

Five contributors have reported calls from 03 8641 9083 (also written as 0386419083) where callers impersonate NAB's fraud department. The callers demonstrate knowledge of victims' personal banking details, including the last four digits of their card numbers and their addresses. This information appears designed to establish false credibility before attempting to manipulate victims into cancelling legitimate cards and providing additional sensitive information.

What makes 0386419083 particularly concerning is the consistency of the impersonation tactic across multiple reports. Callers claim to represent NAB fraud protection, referencing specific alleged incidents like suspicious overseas transactions or unauthorised credit card applications to create urgency. However, when victims contact NAB directly to verify these claims, the bank confirms no such fraudulent activity exists on their accounts.

What Callers from 03 8641 9083 Say

Callers from 03 8641 9083 open by stating they're from the NAB fraud department and immediately cite specific card details to establish authority. One contributor received a call where the caller claimed someone had attempted to apply for a credit card using their name and had made several suspicious withdrawal attempts, all now on a pre-authorised hold. The caller insisted immediate action was necessary and offered to cancel the victim's existing card and issue a replacement.

An English accent has been noted by multiple contributors receiving calls from 0386419083. The callers persistently call back if not immediately engaged, with one contributor reporting repeated callback attempts until explicitly told not to contact them again. Another report described a caller who knew card details but asked zero qualifying questions to actually verify the recipient's identity, a red flag that contradicts legitimate bank procedures.

One contributor also reported receiving an SMS text message from 03 8641 9083, suggesting the scam operation uses multiple contact channels. The text appears designed to encourage clicking a phishing link, a tactic aligned with the broader impersonation strategy.

Report Patterns and Timeline

Reports of scam activity from 0386419083 span from at least June 2025 through February 2026, with one contributor noting the number had been reported as fraudulent since 2022. The calls come through on Telstra's network as a local service number registered to Victoria.

Multiple contributors have validated the scam by immediately contacting NAB after receiving calls from 03 8641 9083. In each case, NAB confirmed no fraudulent activity existed on the victim's account and could see no legitimate outbound fraud alerts that would explain the incoming call. This verification step has proven effective in stopping victims from falling for the impersonation.

Confusing Legitimacy Claims

Just recieved a call from this number. They asked me zero info about who I was and knew the last 4 numbers on my card. Instantly said that I need to cancel July card because it had been declined overseas a couple times. I just received the same call as other have written. Claiming to be from the NAB fraud Department. They knew the last 4 digits of my card number and also my address. They stated that someone had applied for a credit card under my name and also attempted a number of suspicious withdrawals from my debit card which the were now all on a Preauthorised hold. They wanted to cancel my existing card and set me up with a new card once they asked some further questions. They never asked me qualifying questions to confirm my identity which was the first alarm. I rung the NAB who could see no such activity, my cards have now been cancelled, new ones issues. Better luck next time thieves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 03 8641 9083 a real NAB number?

One contributor claimed 03 8641 9083 appears on the NAB website as an overseas contact number. However, scammers frequently spoof legitimate numbers or misuse real business phone numbers to appear credible. If NAB or any bank calls you, hang up and call them back using the number on your card or their official website. Do not trust any number provided by an unsolicited caller, even if 0386419083 appears legitimate online.

How did the caller from 03 8641 9083 know my card details?

Multiple contributors reported that callers from 0386419083 knew the last four digits of their card numbers and their addresses. This information is often obtained through data breaches or by purchasing stolen data from the dark web. Scammers use these details to create false credibility and convince you they work for your bank. Legitimate banks do not need to ask you to confirm information they already have in their systems.

What should I do if I already provided information to 03 8641 9083?

Contact your bank immediately using the number on your card. Tell them you received a scam call from 03 8641 9083 and describe what information you shared. Your bank can monitor your account for fraudulent activity and may issue new cards as a precaution. Change your online banking password and enable additional security features if available. Monitor your accounts closely for any unauthorised transactions.

Why do callers from 0386419083 have an English accent?

Several contributors noted that callers from 03 8641 9083 have spoken with English accents. This is common in organised scam operations that source callers from overseas call centres. The accent can actually help the scammer appear more 'official' or foreign-based, though legitimate Australian banks like NAB are staffed primarily by Australian employees. An accent should never increase your trust in an unsolicited caller.

Should I call back if 03 8641 9083 leaves a voicemail?

No. Do not call back 0386419083 or any number left in a voicemail by someone claiming to be from your bank. Instead, hang up and call your bank directly using the number on your card. If there is a legitimate fraud issue, your bank can explain it when you call them through official channels. Calling back 03 8641 9083 confirms your number is active and may result in more scam calls.

How long has 03 8641 9083 been used for scams?

One contributor noted that 0386419083 had been reported as fraudulent since 2022, yet scam calls continued through 2025 and into 2026. This suggests the number remains in active use despite years of complaints. Scammers often continue operating from the same number because they know many people are unaware it's compromised. Report 03 8641 9083 to ACMA and Scamwatch to add your experience to the evidence against this number.
