    Guy called, spoke poor English and failed to understand what I said. Wanted to ask opinion about climate tackling, never asked the question. Only asked name, age bracket, which state I lived in. Says from Ray Morgan. Asked my name (didn’t give them the legal one) and something, something, good bye. Blocked the number and will report to scamwatch.Government.au.

    I answered and they addressed me by the pseudonym I only use on social media, so not quite sure how they've gotten my number and made that connection. When I said that wasn't my name they hung up on me. Very very dodgy.

    Received unsolicited call and the caller asked for me by christian name. He claimed to be from Roy Morgan doing a "quick 1 minute survey" into "lifestyle options" and providing "recommendations" for me.

    I queried who the research was being conducted for and the (heavily accented) caller just repeated his script about conducting research and providing recommendations. I asked "on whose behalf are you conducting this research and making recommendations" three more times, with "we are just conducting short research" as the response. I asked the caller if he just woke up this morning and decided to randomly call people to conduct research or if his company had been commissioned or engaged to provide research on behalf of a client - and if so, WHO is the client? The caller hung up on me.

    Just received a call claiming to be Roy Morgan - asked me for details about my employment status and industry, age, and state. The company knew my name before calling. Wanted these details for a "survey about the pandemic"

    I was highly suspicious.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
