I got the same call. The police should do something about this. Why do scammers seem to get away with this?? It can scare anybody who is unfamiliar with these types of phone calls. DISGUSTING!!!!!
My mum got the exact same call. Freaked her out. She kept asking why she never received a letter about the fraud and he couldn't explain himself. Have out his employer number and such to sound more legit. And as soon as my mum mentioned she was going to call her lawyer he hung up. This website really helped and thank god it didn't go any further, thanks for your comments.
Got a message on my landline today talking about how I have not payed my taxes, and I was under surveillance and I would be arrested. I called the ATO and reported it. My father in law who is 80 years old also got this call a few months ago. Who are these demented and vile people who have no conscience at all.
Same recorded message as described above threatening legal action, arrest etc and I'm under surveiĺlance... A total scam ....ignore.
F*ck... I'm only 22, just moved out of home and got this message. It scared me to death. Thank you to EVERYONE who has posted on here. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I had the same message about tax evasion, about how I'm under surveillance, and how they are going to get a warrant arrest.
That's messed up who ever did this, and I'm contacting companies and reporting it for spam.
Got contacted on mobile - same story re tax evasion and to return call to the number for further info (or get your solicitor to contact the number). A scam of some sort for sure.
I have had two calls from this number - same as everyone else - recorded message, something about letters sent and legal proceedings pending, address under surveillance blah blah. Absolutely disgusting. Am about to call police and report to ACCC.
Being consistent with other comments this seems to be a scam.
I received a recorded message from this number and they mentioned a letter that I didn't sign and I could be arrested and tax evasion. Basically everything everyone else has said is what I heard. I didn't have a pen with me so I didn't get the number I had to ring to confirm the call but it was not the same as this number. Just another number to add to my blocked numbers.
I received a call from this number at 12.44pm today. Mine was also about tax evasion and tax avoidance and said I would be arrested if I didn't respond to this number. I am going to contact ATO and crime stoppers to see what else can be done. The voice sounded computerised.
I got the same call as reported above and same number about tax evasion. Bizarre.
Fiona.
Got a call from this number threatening tax evasion and the number is under surveilance just like other comment have left a message asking who are they and why they are ringing I am guessing no response!!
These people are scam artists I have reported to police and ACORN. COM and asked for the phonelines to be shut down. If anyothers have 3 minuites to spare pls go to ACORN. Com and log a complaint with the fed govt and insist the phone lines be shut down we have to starve these rats of oxygen !!!
Also just got a message left on my answering machine while I was listening as no one I know calls my home line it's only used for Internet and the same as above no names or address were mentioned just that I was going to be arrested for tax evasion and was under surveillance. I rang the number from a private number wondering what the hell this was all about but no answer.
Just got a call regarding tax evasion, they left this number to call, so I did and played their own message back to them :).
I was really worried after getting calls from them.. What a scam.
My partner just got what sounds like the exact message left on her phone, warrant for arrest etc, she was pretty worried me too at first, suspicious as they did not say her name or who they were, and now after googling feel more assured its a scam, geez what a job.
Got the call right when I was waiting for another call for work. Wasn't really thinking and called back on a work phone which are unlisted. Got a guy who answered as 'Tax Office, how can I help' in an Asian/Indian accent. I said I got a message and wanted to chase it up. He hung up and would not answer when I tried again, then again with a different phone. I called my accountant to see if he had heard anything like this and he said it's a pretty run of the mill scam. I probably didn't fit the profile. Lucky me.
Got a recorded message saying it was the ATO and after sending several unanswered registered letters we were going to be arrested for tax evasion and to call this number. I believe it is a hoax.
Yep... yet another Asian scammer doing the old 'tax avoidance/evasion' trick to bilk money from anyone stupid enough to fall for it, with threats of arrests, etc. Had a couple of these myself, including one from that 03 8518 3026 number just 20 minutes ago.
I also just received this voicemail and it's a complete scam... Just ignore and don't respond.
Recorded message left on my phone telling me that due to tax avoidance there is a warrant for my arrest and that I should call this number back. Obviously shonky, I hope no one falls for it.
