    They called me multiple times and explained about different energy rates and discounts. I asked them and they told me they work for Simply energy. They are broker and finds clients and provide cheaper electricity and gas bill. After reading all comments it seems like they are scam. What should I do now as I have already provided my passport no and date of birth. They also asked for my NMI number of Energy Australia and my address.

    Rang up claiming to call about an energy bill. I don't have energy bills in my name and he didn't say where he was from or ask for my details or even try to get me to confirm my name/details. Went straight into energy details and dates they were apparently due, and when I said, " I don't have ANY bills in my name", they hung up. SCAM.

    Rang and then hung up. Obviously calling from a call centre, where their software calls many numbers at the same time, and if someone answers before you the system hangs up on you. An arrogant way to treat potential customers. I would not bother with an outfit like that.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
