    This number rang six times today. The first few times I ignored, the second few times I answered but did not say anything and they hung up each time. I blocked the number. They rang again from the SAME NUMBER after being blocked and I answered and asked who they were and why they were ringing so often. The person tried arguing with me about it. It turns out it was something to do with electricity. I accused them of spamming/scamming. They continued to argue with me and first denied the 6 calls and then tried defend them saying they wanted to 'help me'. I told them if they wanted to 'help' they would know that where I live we don't have choice in electricity beause there is only a single government provider. I am on the DO NOT CALL list. I blocked the number and they STILL got through. It's got so we can't ever answer the phone to anyone not in contact list because it will probably be spam or a scammer. Why is the government/ACMA not doing anything about this???

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
