    Incoming call from a debt collection agency, latest to buy the debt from other similar agencies, looking for who appears to be the previous owner of my mobile number.

    Calling back after their staff member clicked off after I fired up from being harrased for the same thing as the last 10 agencies... And the answering machine at thier end reps a company called "New Offer". No ABN number for that business.

    Spam call - have had several from the same number almost hourly. They wait for your message service but don't say anything... Seems they are trying to get you curious enough to call back (since most spammers hang up before the message service kicks in, you might think this one is legit).

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
