The caller claimed to be from Telstra and insisted that my internet had been compromised over a public network in the last week. Whenever I tried to respond, they kept interrupting me. Unsafe to answer. Do not answer, let it go to message bank. If they don't leave a message then its a robocall from a spoofed number or V.O.I.P. (voice over internet protocol) connection.

Not a known number by Google, White Pages (aus) Yellow Pages (Australia), Telstra, Vodaphone or Optus etc.

So a totally unsolicited call from an unknown number not in my contacts list & unknown to any other information source for telephone numbers. It comes up when searched as in China??

Make up your own mind as to how valid this caller is but in my opinion its a scammer hoping to make a contact, register your connection in their list to use to steal your money or identity bank account details or message you with some scary (false) message so you ring them or hit their link in the message.

Their goal is to record you saying key phrases like your name, date of birth etc.

DO NOT SAY THE WORD “YES” they can then RECORD YOUR VOICE & use the audio to steal your identity, connect to the tax office & steal your money, identity and/or tax contact details.

Do the best thing, block the number delete the contact & report it to the telcos or scamwatch so others can become aware.

Only a scammer would ring at 7.00 pm.

Never answered the call and left a comment here instead.

This number called me today pretending to be Telstra, advising there's been issue with the network and if I was aware of it. I said this is my work number and if anything happens, my work would let me know. He disconnected me immediately.

SCAMMER ALERT!!

The caller claimed to be calling from eBay about a suspicious purchase of a $500 eBay gift card and asked me to confirm if I made the purchase or someone made the purchase on my behalf.

I queried the intent of the call and how they got my mobile number as I do not have an eBay account and they claimed that it was associated with the purchase or possibly the IP address.

They asked if I gave permission to cancel the purchase, to which I responded yes (what did I care), then asked me to go to the App Store on my phone in order to securely confirm cancellation of the purchase.

When I queried how/why I needed to use the App Store to do that they hung up on the call.
