Understanding the Telstra Tech Support Scam

The calls typically involve a person claiming to be a Telstra technician. Answered a call to this number today, said his name was Steven, a Telstra Technician calling from Telstra Bigpond at headoffice in Exhibition Street, Melbourne. He said there was a problem with my internet and I had been hacked. Tried to get me to press some keys on my keyboard. Clearly the hackers themselves.

I had same number call 10 minutes ago. I didn't know so didn't answer.?

L

Answered the call, but nobody on the other end. Tried to return call, but "you call could not be connected.".

Based on previous nuisance calls from "03", I'd say this is the Telstra tech support scammers again, but can't confirm (yet).
