    Sorry I've copied the exact comment below as we received exactly the same.

    Same.

    I received the same automated message as all the others from ATO from a man with a bad accent. Saying legal course of action against my name for tax evasion and tax avoidance and if I didn't call them or my lawyer call them back on 03 61214129 there would be a warrant for my arrest and they would forcefully recover the amount owed through legal court actions. They also said my house is under surveillance. This needs to be attended to by the police urgently my son got a message on his mobile too. This could really frighten innocent people into complying with these scum scammers. You have their no what is being done?

    I also received a call about 24 hours ago. A man accused me of tax avoidance and there would be a warrant for my arrest issued. Also that my registered address was under surveillance. I felt threatened. I called back and said I was reporting them to the Federal Police and they hung up on me.

    Recorded message to my Hobart landline purportedly from the ATO from 03 6121 4129, asking me to ring them back to avoid legal action. Threatening arrest, saying my address is under surveillance over tax avoidance or evasion (their words). This is the third call of this nature in 2 months.

    We also received a message telling us to call (back) number 02 6140 3466. A woman accused us of "tax avoidance", said there will be issued a "warrant for arrest", and that the "registered address was under surveillance".

    Similar message also received later, saying that was a recording, urging us to call number 03 6121 4129.

    I do not know what numbers these calls were made from, only giving here the two numbers each recorded message was asking to call back "to avoid legal action".

    The caller didn't say who the message was for, no name, no address. I bet they do not have this information and are phishing for it. Do not call back.

    I got the same message on my answering machine and... I AM AN AUDITOR WITH THE ATO.

    This is a scam anyone contacted please report it.

    For privacy reasons the ATO will not leave messages (because anyone could be picking up and its a breach of privacy) we certainly doesn't threaten people as per the message OR ISSUE WARRANTS FOR ARREST in this manner!!

    If we suspected you of avoidance or evasion we'd be contacting you (probably saying) for a random audit due to risk of destruction of evidence/records ect.

    TREAT THESE MESSAGES AS A SCAM.

    They also rang me yesterday and left a message on my answering machine. They said the same things that have been previously written about issuing a warrant and house under surveillance. It is obviously a hoax to me because I have no money. I just hope no-one falls for this and gets scammed. They are amateurs and lets hope we can all get them shut down and warrants for their arrests issued.

    We got the same message today left on our messagebank. Threatening arrest, house under surveillance etc and this phone number. Probably new National Broadband Network number as Hobart numbers are changing from 62.. To 61 when swapping to National Broadband Network. The accent was not Australian. Tried ringing the number from my mobile just for fun (at 8pm) and it just cut straight out. I hope they ring again when we are home to take the call... These type of people are parasites.

    It just happened to me, I had a call left on the answering machine saying that this is an automated message from the Taxation Office you are subjected to receive this message even if your number is on a state or national do not call list. The reason to contact you was to notify you of a legal course of action to be taken against your name on account of tax evasion and tax avoidance.

    A letter sent to your registered address has returned unsigned, resulting into a petition note to be filed against your name and there is a need to issue an warrant for your arrest, your registered address is under surveillance.

    So before the case is sent for execution and you receive the legal course of notifications to forcefully recover the amount unpaid please contact our hotline number or ask your lawyer to get in touch with us on 03 6121 4129, I repeat it is 03 6121 4129 to avoid the legal course of actions, thank you.

    I just called them back and they answered as Taxation Office. I told them that I had a call about unpaid money and they then asked me for my name and tax file number. I told them that you should have that as you called me, he said but I don't know who you are and I need your tax file number for that. I said I've been told not give that out and he said I can help you when I have the number. I said no, this is a scam and I'm contacting the police. He then hung up on me.

    Given the amount of calls people are getting from this number today and not on previous day's it would appear that this is a new one for the perpetrators scam. We just had the same message left on our phone. Immediately knew it was a joke because their was no privacy principles followed. (I'm a fed Govt worker and have also worked for the ATO, at most we'd politely and discretely ask for the client to call back, without mentioning any detail, to avoid privacy breaches or similar) Please don't waste your breath dealing with these losers, simple as that.

    These bozos are just a scam - claiming to be from the Aust Tax Office. Pls ignore them and hang up. They have been ringing my 80 year old mother and telling her that if she does not pay up immediately the police will call around tomorrow morning to arrest her.

    I politely told them if they don't stop ringing her, I will climb down the phone and strangle them.

    Pls ignore their call and get on enjoying your day.

    This idiot rang me asking me "who a I speaking with?".

    I said you tell me you rang me. Def call centre. Lots of noise in the background.

    After a few profanities from THEM I told them where to go and they promptly hung up.

    Disappointed I didn't get to discuss my Taxes with them as others had.

    Reported to SAPOL - this is a hoax, do not give these people any information and if you already have, call the ATO asap.

    Got a call from the ATO claiming that I owed $4800 to them. Gave me a case reference file number. Also was given the callers name Ricky Simons, SK 92435? And his ATO Employer code. Got my tax agent to ring him, he didn't like that. When I rang back for more details, they threatened to suspend my drivers licence and my bank accounts. As well as take me to court for 5 counts of tax fraud.

    ALL FOR $4800!!!

    Obviously a new scam has started today. Just received a call stating that I would be prosecuted etc by the ATO for tax avoidance. Since I am retired and have been for ten years and have not had any dealings with the ATO for all of that time, it is quite definitely a hoax. Reporting it to the police. Good thing I got the call recorded.

    A scam robocall from a person with an Afrikaans accent claiming to be from the Australian Tax Office. The caller stated that I was being prosecuted for tax avoidance and my home was also under surveillance. The caller ordered me to call 0361214129, claiming this was an ATO number. This is of course a scam and should be ignored.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
