    Female caller asked for me by name and actually knew my name. Said she was calling from Security, when I asked who, she said Mastercard and Visa. When I asked for her number she hung up. Obvious scam, especially considering Mastercard and Visa are completely separate companies.

    Yep just checked messages and had this call. Very dodgy. I rang them to have a go and they kept me on hold and said they didn't have my number on their records. Definitely suspicious!

    My mum got the same call this morning, put a lot of pressure on her, saying the police were coming around to arrest her and that she wasn't allowed to talk to anyone about the call. Prey on the elderly. Have made calls to police and ATO advising them of call. Have also made checks with other companies ensuring no unauthorised access.

    Received two messages on our answering machine after a precious phone call asking if this is the ..... residence. The first voice sounded foreign and the second voice sounded as an English accent. Some of the message is:

    This is an automated message from Taxation office. You are subjected to receive this message even if your number is on a safe or a... Or don not call list. We reget to inform you that your account has been lodged and a... Shall be sent forth.... Due to tax avoidance or tax evasions.... Letter sent to your registered address... Need to issue a warning for your arrest at the address........ You or your lawyer to contact us on 03 6107 9612. I will be happy to help you.

    There are spaces in the message as I couldn't understand some of the words due to it being spoken quickly. People be aware of this.

    The ATO will tighten up security on your file if you report this matter to them. The Federal Police are also closing in and will soon be throwing all these scumbags in prison. Do not give these people money under any circumstances.

    This same recorded message has been left on my answering machine every day for about 3 weeks. Tax evasion/ unpaid tax blah blah.

    Same threats, same scam, so over the constant phone calls.

    Do not listen people! Accent was a bad attempt of being American/English/something else.

    I received an automated call saying to call their number because I have been flagged for tax evasion or fraud and a warrant is out for our arrest. My lawyer or myself should call. Strange as the machine did not mention which member belonging to the number should call, so "I" could be one of 6.

    This is definitely a scam. Will report to ATO and keep message for reporting to police.

    Once again filthy Indian scammers trying to get gullible people to give them money, I deal with these scumbags through the court system, they are only the front for an Australian wide scam controlled by a gutless wonder once again from India, once they get their hooks in they will fleece people of many 10s of thousands of dollars.

    The scam is from the ATO and a JAMES ANDERSON, make sure you ring them back and tell them what you think, I did and the weak prick hung up. I may have used some swear words.

    This is so pathetically fake. I have received two recorded messages on my answering machine today telling me, in heavily accented English, that there is a warrant out for my arrest due to tax avoidance and I, or my lawyer, should phone this number in order to pay my debt. Please don't be dumb enough to fall for this rubbish.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
