Understanding the 03 5825 2440 / 0358252440 Phone Scam

In today's digital landscape, scam calls are becoming increasingly sophisticated. One particular number that has raised alarm bells among Australian users is 03 5825 2440. Allegedly presenting itself as Amazon, this number has been linked to fraudulent payment notifications, enticing unsuspecting users into a common scam trap.

On 24/08/2021, a user reported receiving a call from this number stating that a payment of $799 had been made for an iPhone 11. The caller urged the recipient to stay on the line if they didn't authorise the transaction. However, this highly alarming narrative is a classic tactic used by scammers to prompt individuals to divulge personal or financial information.

Why this is Classed as a Scam

This number has been classified as a scam due to the following reasons:

  • Unsolicited Contact: Legitimate businesses, including Amazon, typically do not make unsolicited calls, especially regarding sensitive information like payments.
  • Pressure Tactics: The urgency created during the call serves to confuse and pressure victims into acting quickly without thinking.
  • Request for Personal Information: These calls often lead to requests for personal or credit card details under the guise of 'verification'. This is a red flag and is a common ruse to extract sensitive information.

How to Handle Such Calls

Receiving a call from an unknown number, especially one pretending to be a reputable company, can be distressing. Here are some essential steps to take:

  • Do Not Engage: If you recognise the call as suspicious, do not stay on the line or provide any information. Simply terminate the call.
  • Verify Independently: Always contact the company directly through their official website or customer service number to check if there are any issues with your account.
  • Report the Number: Using platforms like Reverseau can help you report such numbers and check if others have experienced similar calls.

It’s important to remain vigilant in defending against these types of scams. By being informed and cautious, you can avoid falling victim to these malicious intentions. If you've encountered similar calls or have questions related to a suspicious number, using Reverse Phone Lookup Australia can provide additional security against such fraud.

Remember, if it sounds too alarming to be true, take a moment to verify—your vigilance can help you stay safe from scams like the one associated with 03 5825 2440.

SCAM - "This is Amazon. A payment of $799 has been made on your account for an iPhone 11. Please stay on hold if this is not authorised by you" and then the call ended. Almost CERTAINLY a scam call. I ended the call. The scam is likely that they'll ask you to hand over your credit card number so they can verify your records and cancel the fake order. Of course, you've just handed your credit card number over to scammers who then siphon funds out of you by swiftly making purchases. Please be careful out there.
