The Scam Explained
Around mid-January 2023, a user reported a call from someone falsely claiming to be a technician named Robert Williams from the NBN. This purported technician said he was scheduled to visit the user’s home to 'fix' their landline. The deception escalated further when he provided a secondary number to confirm his identity, 1800687626, which has not been verified as a legitimate contact for NBN.
Such scams typically aim to create a false sense of urgency, pushing the recipient into compliance. In this instance, the scammer not only asked for entry into the person's home but also left the individual feeling vulnerable about personal information and security.
