    I think it is scam. Upon picking taking the call, there is a recording of a robotic man saying that this call is from the ATO, and the reason I am being contacted is because they say someone has taken a lawsuit against me?! Whatever!

    How can these scammers call up and threaten people like that, and think they can get away with it?

    People, be smart don’t believe what people say on the phone!

    This number just called me and an automated recorded person said that they are calling from the Australian taxation Office and I need to call them back on 03 5294 0939 to avoid being arrested and a law suit filed as I owe the taxation office. I called the number back and a person answered (with a strong accent) asking for my personal details, name and address. Must be a scam. Low life!!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
