  • Scam

Beware of calls from 03 5294 0524 claiming to be from Telstra. This is a phishing scam attempting to extract personal information under the guise of confirming a fake iPhone order. Be cautious and protect your details.

Identifying the Scam: 03 5294 0524

The phone number 03 5294 0524 / 0352940524 has been reported by numerous users as a telemarketer scam with strong indications of phishing attempts. Callers claiming to be from Telstra are attempting to extract sensitive personal information under the pretence of verifying fake purchases, specifically for the iPhone 12 Pro.

Nature of the Scam

The primary tactic employed by the scammers using this number involves presenting themselves as representatives of Telstra. They assert that you have placed an order for an iPhone and require personal details such as your name, date of birth, and even account specifics to either confirm or cancel this supposed order. Victims have reported being asked for sensitive information that could lead to identity theft and fraud.

Why It's Classified as Phishing

Several reviews indicate that the calls often come from agents with non-Australian accents and details about the 'orders' become convoluted and confusing due to poor call quality. The callers are relentless, continuing attempts over days, clearly aimed at catching individuals off-guard. Users have described the calls as invasive and high-pressure situations, which are typical hallmarks of phishing scams.

How to Handle Calls from 03 5294 0524

If you receive a call from 03 5294 0524 / 0352940524, consider the following advice:

  • Stay Calm: Don’t provide any personal information. Legitimate companies will already have your details.
  • Verify Independently: If the caller claims to be from Telstra, hang up and contact Telstra directly using their official phone number.
  • Report the Call: Document the details of the call and report it to telecommunications authorities or Telstra.
  • Block the Number: To avoid continuous calls, consider blocking the number on your device.

Remember, Protect Your Information

It is crucial to protect your personal information and remain vigilant against these types of scams. By using a Reverse Phone Lookup in Australia, like Reverseau, you can confirm unknown numbers and protect yourself from falling victim to these dubious practices. Stay alert, guard your details, and inform others about this scam to help spread awareness.

Same as other complaint. They were very convincing. Received a call today stating they were from Telstra, someone had purchased an iPhone with my details and they needed to verify wanting my DOB. I advised I will contact Telstra directly and confirm with them as I have no idea who they are.

Had a call from this number (iPhone caller ID says it's from Newtown, Victoria) claiming to be a Telstra Shop agent wanting to confirm an order of an iPhone 12 Pro from my account. The other end had a very bad line, and sounded very busy with several other people on calls and the female claiming to be the Telstra agent had such a strong Indian accent that I had to make her repeat herself several times to understand some of the things she said.

I said no order had been placed, and she then wanted to cancel the order by confirming a few details, and began by asking for my date of birth. I asked her name and where she was calling from, I didn't quite catch the name due to the bad line but said she was from Telstra Shop, I then again asked where she was located, and she replied NSW.

Obviously at this point I knew it was a phishing call, so I promptly told her I would check my accounts online and call them (Telstra Support) back if I discovered anything out of the ordinary and promptly hung up.

I then Googled the number and came across this page.

I then called the same number back out of curiosity and a female with the same accent answered claiming to be from Telstra Shop, so it appears the number correctly links back to where they're calling from.

Don't fall for it. If possible, get as many details from them as you can, but offer no true or accurate details of your own and report the call, along with any info you gather to Telstra at the following link:
