    Its the ATO. I called back after they left a voicemail message. They said they would arrest me for a missed PAYE tax payment. So I gave them my bank account details so they. Could direct debit PAYE in future. I feel.

    I had this number call me just now. I let it go to my voicemail. I listened to my voicemale and it was a robot male voice stating that it was the Australian Taxation office and they were ringing for legal infringement etc. I know this is a scam call so just deleted the voicemail.

    The ATO will never ever ring in such a manner, they send letters via post.

    I never answer calls from unknown numbers anymore. This one is another reason why. Weird computer generated voicemail (think of that social justice group ‘anonymous’) saying the Australian Taxation Office has opened a lawsuit against me. Ridiculous.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
