    Pretends to be from Newton. First 4 digits are used, then they can use last four digits to avoid being blocked.

    Eg 0640 or 0641 etc same scammers.

    Don't engage with this caller, a scammer trying to get personal information whilst posing as the local council doing a census.

    Missed a call from this number. Googled it as it wasn't from my local area. Led to this site where I found out it was a scam.

    Scammer claiming to be from the Bureau of Statistics and as the previous person said, asking personal details. When asked how I can confirm that they are who they say they are, they hung up.

    This is a scammer saying they are from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

    Wanting to ask you personal questions.

    When I said I was not comfortable giving them the information they wanted - THEY HUNG UP.

    Not likely a legitimate Govt Dept would be hanging up on you.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
