The phone number 03 5292 0647 / 0352920647 has caught the attention of many, with users reporting it as a suspicious call. Claiming to be from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), this caller posed as an official conducting a quick survey. However, the involvement of personal details and urgency has raised red flags among recipients.

Based on the report dated 07/09/2021, the caller knew the recipient's name and suggested they had only a few questions to complete the survey. However, the speed of the speech, characterized as rapid with a possibly Malaysian accent, added to the apprehension felt by users. The concern here stems from the recurring scams which exploit the ABS name to gain personal information under false pretenses.

Classification of 03 5292 0647

How to Handle Calls from 03 5292 0647

If you receive a call from this number or a similar one, here are some steps you can take:

  • Do not provide personal information: Legitimate organisations will not request sensitive information over the phone.
  • Verify independently: If unsure, hang up and call the ABS directly on their officially listed contact numbers, such as their 1300 number.
  • Report the call: If a scam is suspected, consider reporting it to the appropriate authorities to help others stay informed.
  • Use Reverseau: Utilize a reverse phone lookup service in Australia to identify unknown numbers and their history.

Staying vigilant and informed is key. Recall that while not all unsolicited calls are scams, maintaining a sceptical approach helps shield you from potential fraud. Reverseau offers tools that can help users determine who called them and whether that call should concern you.

Caller knew my name, and said they were calling from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and they were calling to do a very quick survey. They said they only had 4 questions and it would be a very quick survey, and said ok? A lot.. They spoke with a very rapid Asian (possibly Malaysian) voice.

I’m aware there are lots of scams using ABS, so I hung up and blocked number, as it did not seem legit. There is a 1300 number that people are recommended to call if they want to check if the ABS really have called you.
