03 4410 1008 (0344101008): 11 scam reports of fake NAB payee verification texts claiming to add 'M Khan', requesting callback to confirm.
NAB Impersonation Reports for 03 4410 1008
Eleven contributors have reported scam activity involving 03 4410 1008 (also written as 0344101008), with the majority flagging impersonation of NAB. The pattern is consistent: contributors receive SMS messages appearing to come from NAB, claiming someone is attempting to add a payee (typically named 'M Khan') to their account, and requesting they call 03 4410 1008 to verify or block the action.
The sophistication of these messages is a key concern. Reports indicate the fake SMS includes authentication codes (such as 578190 or 909930) and references a mobile number (+61418927502) that mimics legitimate banking communication. Several contributors who contacted 0344101008 directly report being asked for sensitive information including full name, email address, and details of their NAB accounts, confirming the number belongs to scammers, not NAB.
What Callers from 03 4410 1008 Request
Contributors who made the mistake of calling 03 4410 1008 report being asked directly for personal banking details. One contributor disclosed their full name, email, and information about their NAB accounts before realising the nature of the scam. Another received a follow-up where the scammer claimed to be from NAB and requested personal identification.
The initial contact via SMS is designed to trigger action: the fake NAB message creates urgency by implying unauthorised activity on the account, then directs the recipient to call 0344101008 to 'confirm' the payee addition or 'block' it. This call-back mechanism is the core of the scam, as it moves the interaction from a text (which can be easily ignored or checked against legitimate NAB channels) to a live conversation where scammers can pressure victims for information.
SMS Message Patterns
Reports describe consistent SMS content, with variations in the authentication code and payee name. The standard message format reads: 'NAB: [CODE] is your code to add [NAME] as a new payee. If this was not you, please call us at 03 4410 1008.' Multiple contributors note the sender ID appears to be a mobile number (+61418927502) rather than NAB's official number, though the text content mimics NAB formatting closely enough to deceive inattentive recipients.
A critical detail from contributors is that some received the fake payee request on secondary cards or linked accounts, suggesting scammers may be targeting multiple account holders associated with a single NAB customer. One report notes that while the second cardholder received the SMS request, the primary account holder did not, indicating the scammers had partial account information.

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Is 03 4410 1008 a real NAB number?
No. 03 4410 1008 is not a legitimate NAB phone number. NAB's official customer service number is 1300 13 22 66. If you receive an SMS directing you to call 0344101008 about your NAB account, it is a scam. NAB will never ask you to call a number from an unsolicited SMS to verify account activity.
Why am I receiving SMS messages from NAB about adding a payee I didn't request?
The SMS messages claiming to be from NAB and directing you to call 03 4410 1008 are not legitimate. Scammers are impersonating NAB and sending fake payee verification texts to large numbers of Australians. These messages are designed to trick you into calling 0344101008, where scammers will request personal and banking information. NAB does not operate this way.
What should I do if I called 03 4410 1008 and gave them my name?
Contact NAB immediately on 1300 13 22 66 to report the scam. Change your online banking password right away. Monitor your NAB account closely for any unauthorised payee additions or transactions. If you also provided your email address or account details to 0344101008, change passwords on other accounts that use the same email and report to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au).
Why do the fake NAB texts include authentication codes like 578190 or 909930?
Scammers include fake authentication codes in SMS messages impersonating 03 4410 1008 to make their messages appear more legitimate and authentic. The codes are invented and are not real NAB verification codes. Their purpose is to make you more likely to believe the payee addition is genuine and to panic you into calling 0344101008 to 'confirm' or 'block' it.
I received the fake NAB SMS but didn't call 03 4410 1008. Am I at risk?
You are safer than someone who called 0344101008, but you should still take precautions. Check your NAB account directly via the official NAB app or website to confirm no unauthorised payee additions have occurred. If your account is normal, delete the SMS and block the number 0344101008. Still report the message to ACMA by forwarding it to 0429 999 888 to help them track this scam.
The SMS said 'If this was not you, please call 03 4410 1008.' Is this a legitimate security check?
No. This is a common scam tactic to create urgency and trick you into calling 0344101008. Real banks never direct you to call numbers from unsolicited SMS messages. If you receive such a message, ignore it entirely. Instead, independently verify by calling NAB on 1300 13 22 66 using the number on your NAB card or their official website.
