Understanding the Scam Behind 03 4309 4129

The phone number 03 4309 4129 / 0343094129 has been heavily reported by users as a source of unsolicited scam calls impersonating the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Victims have described receiving aggressive messages demanding urgent callbacks regarding supposed tax evasion or fraud. If you've encountered this number, it's crucial to know the signs of this scam and how to protect yourself.

Characteristics of the Scam

Numerous reports indicate that when users answer calls from this number, they are met with a recording or a live person, often speaking in an Indian accent, claiming to be from the ATO. These calls typically intimidate recipients by suggesting serious legal consequences for alleged tax-related offences. Here are the common features associated with this scam:

  • Claims to be from the ATO, presenting a false sense of authority.
  • Urgent requests for personal information or payment to resolve supposed tax issues.
  • Threatening language regarding jail time or legal repercussions.
  • Inconsistent details such as generic greetings and refusal to provide verification.

What You Should Do If You Receive a Call From This Number

If you receive a call from 03 4309 4129 / 0343094129 or a similar number claiming to represent the ATO:

  • Do not engage: Simply hang up or block the number. Reputable organisations like the ATO will never use aggressive tactics demanding immediate payment.
  • Verify: If you have concerns about your tax situation, contact the ATO directly through their official channels, not the numbers provided by the scam callers.
  • Report the call: Report this scam to the ATO and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to aid in efforts to track down the scammers.

Calls from 03 4309 4129 / 0343094129 are part of a broader pattern of fraudulent activities aimed at exploiting individuals through fear and confusion. It’s vital to stay vigilant and informed about such scams. By using services like Reverseau, you can look up suspicious phone numbers and share information with others to help combat these scams. Why isn't action taken if these scammers are reported. The ATO and FP don't seem to act fast on these numbers, how hard is it to stop the number. This is definitely a scam call.

H

Same story here. Call from this number is always someone with Indian/Sril. accent. I did the following two things:

1. go to scam report website to report this number:

[link] I am now calling them (03-43094129) whenever I am free, basically everyday, telling them that their number has been reported to the federal police. I also tell them that I hope they can be arrested very soon and hope to see them on the news. :).

C
Carpio

Calling to say they are the ATO and that we need to call urgently to avoid tax evasion. it's a same.

A
Anders

Called me today saying they were from the ATO and I had better "pay up or go to jail" scammer.

L
Lindholm

Ditto to all of the above - except for the clever bloke suggesting we hand over our credit card details! :). Scammers. I've installed a really effective Australian app called "Should I Answer" which has helped to block about 99% of these calls which I was getting up to 10 times a day. Still get the odd one.

These scammers are pretty insistent - so I guess there are still some poor fools out there who are falling for it and helping the scammers make a lot of money.

M
Markowitz

These pricks just called me. I only changed the number a week ago.

E

Just got off the phone to them - was glad I took the call and have avoided entering a legal battle with the almighty ATO glad I dodged that bullet was quite simple just gave them my credit card number and other personal details they were even happy enough to flag the late fees how good !

Hung up on first automated phone call as soon as Tax Office mentioned so they have phoned again and left a voicemail which I am just about to delete. Another number to block on my mobile. I guess I am lucky that they aren't calling the home phone. No way to block it there.

D
Donn

I'm just about to change my phone number. I'm so sick of these scammers calling me all day everyday, even after registering on the no call list.

G
Gantt

Got 3 voicemails from 03 4309 4129 claiming to be the ATO this morning... I had to call back as a matter of extreme urgency apparently or I would be arrested today. So I called em back for a little fun...23 times... Managed to get hold of the same scammer 3 times in a row and grind him down... In the end he apologised and said he'd take me off the database ;-)... If anyone wants to wear these idiots out, call the number above and waste their time so they cant scam others.

L
Loi

Just got a second call 0343094129. I didn't pick up the first time and not the second time, but they've just left the same voice mail.

Indian accent, not as threatening as the first voice message. They don't even say where they're calling from. These numbers need to be disconnected straight away!

B
Binns

Just got this now. Indian accent. Claiming to be from tax office. Threatening. Will report to ATO.

A
Airhart

Yeah, Indian guy claiming he works at Australian Tax Office, it's a SCAM, beware.

C
Cruz

Scam! trying to say tax fraud!! Indian sounding and when I called the number back I immediately realised it was a scam, he had no details and tried to ask me to re call him back and ask for Peter Anderson (come on which indian person has such an anglo name!) when I said no he hung up on me! Leaves a voice message very scary and threatening at first saying you need to get a lawyer as you committed tax fraud! I was like dam I should be rich then shouldn't I??

H
Horvat

I have reported this number to the ATO. I confirmed with the ATO that they were not calling me. Please ignore any message received from this number.

L
Langford

Left a message saying friends or lawyer needs to call back.. Do not disregard @_@.

B
Biagi

Yep. My second voicemail that sounds like this. This one was from 03 4309 4129. Indian guy. Previously it was some Texan sounding robot. So scammy and stupid.

E
Eardley

I just got the same phone call with a guy leaving a rude and abrupt voicemail about tax invasion and for me or my lawyer to call him back saying it is serious so please return the call.

Righto mate! Yeah right!

H
Hollins

Yes, same deal. I'm ready to phone them back and record the conversation, but then I remember I have a life. Reported them to the ACCC so hopefully we can all get some rest over it. Who are these tossers ?

B
Batterton

A man with an Indian accent claiming to be from the ATO and calling me about tax evasion and fraud, I know fool well I am not involved in either so I know he isn't from the ATO but I also know the ATO would not be harrassing me with phone calls and leaving aggressively toned phone messages. Have been receiving these calls now for weeks, they seem to just change their number and then continue calling, always claiming to be ATO and investigating tax fraud sometimes it is a recording - now it's an indian accent. I am on the do not call register but as they are somehow a scam they clearly don't care. (not sure how exactly they are scamming but also not sure what they are getting out of pretending to be the ATO). Am sick to death of it.

B
Beers

Scam.

Middle eastern guy called. Said he was from Australian Tax Office. Ringing about tax avoidance. Gave no details of my own. Asked for his name- "Michael Anderson" asked for his employee number with ATO he put the phone down.

Reported to the real ATO!

J
Jourdan

This person is a scammer he has called me several times, don't reply because if it was the tax office they would send you a letter, just hang up on them.

A
Armand

This number keeps calling me and leaves a message about tax avoidance. Call back and says I cannot be connected at this time. Seems like a scam.

B
Boers

Ditto with the other comments.

Scammer pretending to be ATO.

D
Dicarlo

Scammer pretending to be ATO.

G

A recording of a guy with an Indian accent plays when you pick up the phone from this number. Has an angry and confrontational tone saying he's from the tax office and this is regarding tax avoidance. I started getting texts saying the same thing. I called the ATO and they told me I have no such record on my file.

I have no idea how these scammers are trying to make money but they are a nuisance. Call the ATO and tell them the phone numbers when you receive a text or phone call. They take these scams very seriously. Hopefully they track these guys down and put them behind bars soon.

I
Isabel

They are scammers, I called them out on it and they abused me on the phone haha.

B
Barks

Missed a call. Called back then said it was ATO so I put phone down. Called back and the phone wouldn't connect. Tried several more times after that and it still wouldn't connect.
