Recently, the phone number 02 9637 5711 has come under scrutiny as a potential scam, specifically as a robocall pretending to provide information about broadband internet services. Multiple users have reported receiving calls from this number, leading them to believe it may be a fraudulent operation.

The common thread among the reports is a similar experience: when answered, a recorded message activates, claiming to discuss important matters regarding your broadband internet. Users were prompted to either disconnect their internet service or speak with a so-called "professional," a tactic that is often used by scammers to either gain personal information or to instil a sense of urgency that further entraps unsuspecting victims.

This appears to be a classic case of vishing (voice phishing), where deceptive tactics are employed over the phone to extract sensitive information or to scam money out of individuals. Here are some key reasons this number can be classified as a scam:

  • Automated Messaging: The use of a recorded message, rather than a live representative, is a hallmark of many phone scams.
  • Lack of Identity: No identifiable company or person is linked to this call, raising red flags regarding its legitimacy.
  • Pressure Tactics: Urging recipients to act quickly could potentially jeopardise their personal information and security.

If you receive a call from 02 9637 5711, it is advisable to hang up immediately and avoid providing any personal information. If you are unsure about whether a number is legitimate, consider utilising a service like Reverseau to conduct a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia on the number to verify its authenticity.

To protect yourself from such scams in the future, it's best practice to remain cautious about unsolicited calls. Always verify the identity of any caller before engaging and report suspicious numbers, like this one, to the relevant authorities or through platforms that focus on identifying scam instances, such as those on Who Called Me Australia.

Probably scam. Recorded message comes on when I answered the incoming call. It says it’s about your broadband internet and to press numbers to disconnect internet or speak to a professional.
