Understanding the Calls from 02 9549 5220

Recent reports have identified the number 02 9549 5220 / 0295495220 as a suspected scam operation impersonating a health service provider. This caller has purportedly misled users by claiming to be affiliated with LinkHealth, causing considerable concern among recipients. With the growing prevalence of telephone scams, it is crucial to be informed about these deceptive tactics and know how to respond.

Characteristics of the Scam

Users who have received calls from this number describe interactions with a woman speaking English with difficulty, which can be a potential red flag. The caller alleged that the recipient had left a message with LinkHealth, a healthcare service, before providing misleading information about their office location. The divergence between the number format claimed and the verified contact details for LinkHealth—that they use a 1300 number—suggests that this is a deliberate attempt to fabricate legitimacy.

Identifying a Scam Caller

  • Poor Communication: Difficulty in communication can indicate a scammer, often utilising scripted responses.
  • Inconsistent Information: Scammers often provide inaccurate details about companies they claim to represent, such as incorrect phone numbers or locations.
  • Unsolicited Calls: If you have not requested information or assistance, any unexpected call may be suspicious.

How to Handle Calls from This Number

If you receive a call from 02 9549 5220 / 0295495220, it is best to handle it cautiously:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid providing any personal information. Politely end the call if it feels suspicious.
  • Verify Independently: Always check the official contact numbers of businesses before engaging further. In this case, look for LinkHealth’s verified numbers, which begin with 1300.
  • Report the Incident: Report the number to agencies that monitor scams, such as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or your local consumer protection agency.
