    Phoned the practice several times, woman was yelling at the receptionist asking to give private details about the owner of the company. Originally said that the call was regarding an overdue phone bill and that if she didn't provide the details immediately, the phone would be cut off.

    FYI our phone still works. No bills are overdue. Huge scam.

    Caller claimed to be from a company called "My Phone Bill" asking for the name of the owner of the business so that they could send us a "specialised code" to use if anything happened to the National Broadband Network at our premises.

    I refused to give her the info she wanted and she said she was noting my name down so that if anything did happen to the National Broadband Network, that it's my fault.

    Got a call at my office asking for me by name. My team told me he was quoting something about a privacy act but when I attempted to return the call there was no answer. This is likely a scam as there was not much detail and he would not give any information to my assistant. Only knew my surname and did not give any information to my team considering he was ringing a business number.

    Would not answer or give information if you receive a call.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
