Got a call from someone claiming to be from ING bank saying they spotted dodgy transactions on my account. Knew my details too! When he got all secretive about the rest of my card number, I told him I'd give ING a ring myself. He was polite and said he'd sort new cards for me, but feels dodgy, doesn't it?

Let’s be honest – this number is a total scam! Amex doesn’t have a clue about it, and they’ve got a fancy phone menu trying to play the part. Be wary, mates!

Straight up, this is a scam if I’ve ever heard one! Do yourself a solid and don’t give them any details. If you’re unsure, just ring the 1300 number on the back of your card. They’re sneaky, using numbers that look just like the 9271 ones to trick ya, and they want to switch to WhatsApp - total red flags!

I was getting bombarded with calls from this number! Thought it might be legit since it looked like it was from Amex, but they asked for my security info and seemed to know a lot about me. A bit fishy, to say the least...

I had the same dodgy experience with this number yesterday! They used the same name and the same tactics, trying to fish for my personal info. I rang AMEX using the number on my card just to be safe, and they confirmed it's a scam. They’re officially following up on it. It was a creepy call – they even had bits of my card number! No thanks!

This Scam is Alive and Well. I received three calls, one minute apart before I answered. The caller claimed to be from Amex Fraud department. He had my first and last name and phone No. Like the other events listed here, the claim was that my card had been used seven times that day in New Zealand for a total of $3000+ and was I in NZ. He said that he had 'blocked' the card and needed to verify some of my details. When I said that I would ring Amex direct, he gave me a Reference No. And said that I should ring back and quote that No. When I rang AMEX, they said that they had not contacted me, there were no suspicious transactions on my card and that they NEVER ring, rather they send SMS and Emails if there is a concern. Given that no personal data had been given to the scammer, there was no problem. While I was talking to AMEX, the scammer tried to ring eight times in quick succession, all of which I cancelled and subsequently blocked. Not to be outdone the scammer then called three more times from a Melbourne number. Also cancelled and blocked.

This number is pulling a right dodgy stunt, claiming to be from AMEX Fraud department. They talk a good game about unverified transactions and even had the gall to ask for personal info after I expressed discomfort. Pretty sure they’re fishing for details, not helping!

Straight up not legitimate, mate! This is a ripoff operation – hit that hang up button and block ‘em for good!

This is definitely a scam; I recommend hanging up and calling American Express directly using the number on the back of your card for verification.

This is a typical scam attempt. When I called back, the scammer instructed me to call the number on the back of my card, trying to sound convincing. He asked for the 4-digit code on the back of my card, but I refused, as no legitimate bank would request that information. They are clearly scammers.

The person on the line knew my full name and even my credit card number. They tried to trick me into providing my card's expiry date and CCV, which raised serious red flags about their intentions.

I experienced repeated calls from this number, with claims of being from American Express, occurring four times in a row at one-minute intervals. I have blocked this number to prevent further harassment.

I received a text message from a different number warning about fraud, instructing me to call this number for more details. I was anxious it might be a scam, so I called the 1300 number listed on the back of my American Express card. They confirmed it was indeed their fraud team, but advised that it's best to always call the number on the back of the card to ensure safety.

This phone number is pretending to be a legitimate American Express contact, which is known as "spoofing." I've never had an American Express credit card and still received a call from this number, indicating a possible scam.

A male caller, claiming to be from American Express and using the alias "John Smith" with a heavy Southeast Asian accent, questioned me about a transaction. I hung up immediately and later verified with American Express through their official portal that this call was not legitimate.

This is definitely a scam. They called my work and sent me an id kit link making it look legitimate. The other comments are definitely the scammers trying to validate the number when it is definitely a scam. I contacted AMEX by phone, email and live chat and they all said it is fake. It texts from a fake AMEX private number the real one should have Amex rather than AMEX in caps. I have no idea how they found my work but the email they sent me to validate my bank was also fake, the trademark date was 2017. Beware this is definitely a scam.

This is so far from legitimate it's not funny. The sheer amount of scammers reporting this number as AMEX is baffling. I don't have AMEX but the woman on the other end of the line couldn't seem to digest I have never and will never have an AMEX card. I think the scammers are leaving comments to legitimise their scam and people are falling for it.

This number belongs to American Express' fraud department, and while it appears legitimate, it is advisable to call the verified AMEX hotline to confirm any suspicions.

This call was definitely NOT a scam. A representative from the American Express team called me to inform me about a fraudulent online shopping transaction made with my card, which I did not authorize. They blocked my card and assured me that it was not me who made the transaction.

This call was completely legitimate and came from American Express's Fraud Protection team. The number is listed on the Amex website, and I have confirmed it with them directly.
