Understanding the Scam
Reports indicate that callers often state they are from Telstra, a trusted Australian telecommunications company, and are providing an irresistible reward: a brand-new iPhone. However, these calls have all the hallmarks of a classic scam:
- Unsolicited Contact: Many victims reported receiving multiple calls, often in a single day, raising red flags about the legitimacy of the offer.
- Suspicious Requests for Personal Information: Callers frequently request sensitive details, such as date of birth, address, and even driver's license numbers – tactics designed to obtain personal data for fraudulent purposes.
- Pressured and Repeated Promises: Despite being told ‘no’, callers persistently push for confirmation and additional information, indicating that they are not adhering to acceptable sales practices.
How to Handle Calls from 02 9260 6629
If you receive a call from this number, it is crucial to remain cautious. Here’s how you can protect yourself:
- Do Not Share Personal Information: Never give out sensitive information over the phone, especially to unknown callers.
- Hang Up and Block the Number: If you suspect a scam, terminate the call immediately and add the number to your blocked contacts.
- Use Reverseau Services: Consider using Reverseau or other reverse phone lookup Australia services to identify unknown numbers and check if they have been reported by others.
Conclusion
In conclusion, 02 9260 6629 / 0292606629 is not a legitimate Telstra contact but rather a suspicious telemarketer attempting to defraud individuals under the guise of a promotional offer. Stay informed and vigilant about unsolicited calls of this nature to protect your personal information effectively. Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Called me 3 times - Indian call center pretending to be Telstra offering a free brand new iPhone. Will send a text message to your phone from the sender 'Telstra' to try seem more authentic (this is done very easily so don't get sucked in). Remember Telstra customer service is Philippine based and the sales teams are not pushy at all, extremely polite and will have your details in front of them rather than admit - like this one did - that they called from an automatic dallier.
