    Said he was from Sydney car removals, told him I was on do not call list and he said he would take my number off the list, I’ve been contacted by them several times and have always blocked the number only for them to use a new number every time they have called.

    Car removal cold call. Don't know if it's a scam, they said I inquired about selling my car for scrap. Either they're cold calling randoms or they are legit company responding to enquiries made a decade late. So they're either dodgy or incompetent.

    Interesting. I did not answer, but I do have a rego that is due in a week or so in Mortdale. The papers come to my PO Box, though, so it's not likely to be intercepted there & they did not appear to be tampered with. Someone on the inside, apparently.

    Called me at 6pm and started the call with a ‘good morning ma’am’ and launched into whatever his script was, couldn’t understand as it was a bad connection but asked him where in the world he was since it’s evening. He laughed and realised his mistake and said good job, so I hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
