Community reports for 02 9160 1484 (0291601484): Automated PayPal impersonation scam calls claiming unauthorised debits, requesting callback with menu options to 'cancel' payments.
PayPal Impersonation Robocalls from 02 9160 1484
Contributors have reported a concerning pattern of robocall scams targeting 02 9160 1484 (also written as 0291601484). The calls use automated voice messages falsely claiming to be from PayPal, warning recipients of unauthorised transactions and payment debits. Six separate reports describe robotic female voices delivering these fraudulent messages, with at least two reports confirming the caller specifically impersonates PayPal. One contributor noted the voicemail stated "a PayPal payment from me had been authorised" and provided menu options to speak with "staff" and cancel the payment - a clear attempt to trick recipients into pressing buttons to connect with scammers.
The sophistication of these 0291601484 calls lies in their urgency tactics. Multiple contributors report the automated message threatens that money "would be taken off my debit account" or "money was about to be debited from my account," creating artificial time pressure. Several recipients of calls from 02 9160 1484 blocked the number before fully engaging, but still received voicemail recordings. One contributor received a partial voicemail where "the first half was cut off," hearing only the robotic threat about debit card deductions. Another report mentions a recorded female voice speaking Chinese, suggesting this operation may target multiple language communities.
What Callers from 02 9160 1484 Claim
The robocalls from 02 9160 1484 follow a consistent impersonation script. Callers claim affiliation with PayPal and allege that the recipient has authorised a payment or that money is being deducted from their account. The messages then prompt recipients to press menu options (commonly "press 3") to reach PayPal staff who can supposedly cancel or stop the transaction.
Contributors describe the message tone as urgent and threatening. One report states: "it was a pre-record robot sounding female voice claiming the be from PayPal saying money was about to be debited from my account and if I want to stop it press 3." Another recipient summarised the message as requesting them to "speak to their staff and 'cancel' the payment" - with the word cancel in quotes, indicating the contributor recognised the deception. The consistency across multiple 0291601484 reports suggests an automated dialler system playing pre-recorded messages designed to bypass caller ID screening and create a sense of legitimate urgency.
Report Patterns and Timing
Community reports for 02 9160 1484 span from June 2023 through March 2026, indicating this number has been used for extended scam campaigns. Multiple calls occurred around 8 June 2023, with one recipient documenting a specific time: 1:58 pm. Another report mentions a 1:30 pm call the same day. The concentration of reports from mid-2023 suggests a particular surge in activity during that period, though the more recent March 2026 report indicates the scam continues.
Contributors consistently report that 02 9160 1484 bypassed their phone's fraud detection. One recipient stated: "as my phone was able to screen the call as a potential fraud, I blocked it," yet still received a voicemail message. This pattern appears across multiple reports - the robocall system from 0291601484 leaves incomplete or partial voicemail recordings, possibly due to technical issues with the automated dialling. A contributor noted the voicemail was cut off, with "all I could hear was a robovoice telling me that money would be deducted from my debit card."

This number called me today. I let it go through to voicemail. It was a pre-record robot sounding female voice claiming the be from PayPal saying money was about to be debited from my account and if I want to stop it press 3. Have since blocked the number.
Called me about 5 minutes ago, but as my phone was able to screen the call as a potential fraud, I blocked it. I still got a voicemail, or at least half of it. The first half was cut off, so all I could hear was a robovoice telling me that money would be deducted from my debit card. Not sure of thee origins.
Got a call on 08/06/2023, didn't answer, no voicemail left
I got a call from them but as my phone picked it up as a fraud call, I blocked it. I still got a voicemail but the first part was cut off, so I am not sure where it came from. Said that money would be taken off my debit account. Pffft!
