The phone number 02 9160 0201 / 0291600201 has sparked significant attention as users report a series of suspicious calls from individuals identifying themselves as representatives of a company named OBC. The consistent pattern of their approach raises several red flags that classify these calls as suspicious, particularly given the nature of their interactions and the insistence on contacting high-level executives.

A Closer Look at User Reports

Several individuals have reported similar experiences when answering calls from this number. Callers frequently request to speak directly to a boss or CEO, often referring to them by name. This tactic not only creates an air of urgency but also exploits the professional environment, putting secretaries or receptionists in a challenging position. However, the reluctance of these callers to disclose the purpose of their call is particularly alarming.

Classification: Suspicious

Typically, legitimate businesses will identify themselves and provide context for their calls. In this case, many users reported that when asked about the nature of the call, the response was vague at best. Instead, callers often resorted to placing blame on the receiver for being rude or abruptly ending the communication.

The Tactics Used

Individuals claiming to be from OBC often mentioned ICT (Information and Communication Technology) services in a manner that suggests an attempt to discuss services they are trying to sell. Users have pointed out that their company does not currently engage with OBC and that these calls serve more as a veiled sales pitch rather than a genuine inquiry. This tip-toeing around the topic clearly indicates an underlying motive that consumers should be cautious about.

Asked for my boss by name, I said will he know what this is about? Yes, then I asked him and he had never heard of OBC. I then asked her what is OBC and she hung up.

"Kayla" called - said she is from OBE... Googled this and no business under this name. Wanted to speak to our CEO - asked for him by his first name only. Didn't want to say what the call was about... Only that she wanted him to call her back. Definitely spam.

As above.. Calls from a "Kayla" at OBC, complaining they haven't heard back from our Managing Partner, they use his name. They say they aren't selling anything but then proceed to say they are calling about our "ICT" (They won't elaborate unless you ask, I gather they use the abbreviations to sound more less sales-ish) and its landlines, infrastructure, internet dongles etc.

So, trying to sell things we gather as we are not clients of theirs and have providers already.

Received a call from this number requesting to speak to my boss by name. They claimed to be from OBC and stated they wanted to discuss our Telstra account. This raises suspicion regarding their legitimacy.

The person on the line claimed to be from OBC and requested to speak directly with my boss by name. However, my boss has already confirmed they do not recognize this number due to previous harassing calls. I informed the caller that if they cannot specify the purpose of the call, I will not facilitate the connection. I was met with rudeness or the call was ended abruptly.
