    It's not any kind of scam - it's St George Bank.

    This number rings me every 2 days - rang back today and recorded message said it was the number for 3 banks in 3 different states. Also advised me to ring another general inquiry line. But I don't have any accounts with those banks. Too fishy not to think its a scam.

    Called back this number to which I was directed to a message service saying it was from either St George, Bank of SA or Bank of Melbourne. I don't have any association with these banks so sounds like a scam to me, how can this number be from 3 different banks? Or are they the same bank just in different states?

    They will claim to be your bank and ask you personal information to 'verify your identity' - just ring your bank directly as there are so many scammers out there these days.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
