    This numbe rang Tues 24 Jan 2023 at 3:19 pm. Even if I'm looking directly at my phone, if an unknown number rings, I'll let it go to the answering system. My recorded message tells them that if I don't recognise the number I won't ring back unless they leave a message that makes sense. They didn't leave a message and that suggests to me that it's a scam and they want to leave no evidence.

    Australian DIY Families Institute charity caller, quite annoying long speel wanting to sell a hamper for needy with chance to win fiji holiday. Suspect very little % actually goes to charity and most is kept by the telemarketing company, basically a scam.

    Australian DIY Families Institute telemarketer trying to get you to purchase hampers for disadvantaged families in return for a chance to win a trip to Fiji. The bloke I dealt with was super persistent and was not interested in me telling him I was not interested.

    Calls daily, claims to be from a charity organisation (didn't catch the name due to excessive background noise) collecting funds for single parent families....

    Called, left no voicemail.

    Called them back. Answered instantly then heard “Hello, can you hear me?” In an Australian accent. Blocked.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
