    "Consumer Benefits" with foreign accents has called several times wanting to ask one question. But they ask several. They knew my name and address - were they casing the joint?

    This number just phoned my mother in England. They must intercept texts on Whatsap as there is no other way of getting her number as it is private.

    I have warned her not to answer.

    Today 13/11/17. Answered this number twice, no response. They called twice more, didn't bother picking up the call... Judging by the comments here, just as well. Hopefully they go away. Thank you to helpful people who write advising of nuisance calls.

    I have had 9 calls from this number this evening. Not answering any of them, but this is getting annoying. Seems having a silent number and being on the do not call register does not help!

    Every 30 mins this afternoon they have harassed us despite being told in no uncertain way to leave us alone. How do you deal with these people? Indian sounding and extremely persistent. There have been other local (to North Shore) numbers doing the same thing as well.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
