The phone number 02 9071 0207 has emerged as a notable concern for Australians, earning a classification of a scam number according to user reports. This number is often linked to various deceptive practices that can catch unsuspecting individuals off guard.

Many users have reported that the number is known for automated calls claiming to be from reputable services like Amazon, hinting at subscription renewals that do not exist. For example, one user noted receiving a recorded message stating their Amazon subscription would be auto-renewed unless action was taken. These tactics are characteristic of phishing scams designed to extract money or personal information from people under false pretences.

Moreover, other accounts detail attempts by individuals, reportedly from Asian backgrounds, claiming issues with bank accounts and demanding immediate action regarding fictitious breaches. One report indicated a caller alleging a large amount had been debited as part of a Visa dispute, leading the recipient to profess unexpected fraud investigation roles; a tactic that was immediately met with a hang-up from the scammers.

In addition, reports indicate calls made late at night exhibit a lack of any informative engagement, with recipients simply hanging up or being met with silence. The pattern reveals a strikingly common approach among these calls where users are startled, and in many instances left confused.

This number's reputation is compounded by an array of complaints suggesting the calls are not only intrusive but also distressing, with multiple individuals expressing suspicion over the nature and timing of the calls. Given that these interactions often provoke anxiety, it is essential for people in Australia to be vigilant.

To protect yourself from such scams, consider these tips:

  • Do not engage with unknown callers; if a call feels suspicious, hang up.
  • Do not provide personal information, financial details, or even simple data like your social security number to any unknown source.
  • Consider blocking the number after reporting it to relevant authorities or fraud detection body.
  • Utilise services like Reverseau to trace numbers and gather information on callers and reported scams.

In an era of rising scams, being aware of numbers such as 02 9071 0207 and their deceptive practices can help others steer clear of potential fraud, fortifying their financial security against dishonest individuals.

This looks like a Sydney based VoIP number, of course they could be anywhere though, I never heard anything no ring, no ping, it was immediately categorised as SPAM, I find Android SPAM detection to be spot on!

This is a recorded message purporting to be Amazon and stating that your subscription is going to be auto renewed unless you select an option I assume. I didn't listen long enough to find out! Do not answer.
