I experienced a similar incident with a foreign woman claiming to work for the security department at Visa/Mastercard. I told her to leave me alone and hung up. In the last few days, I've received calls from the following numbers: (02) 9069 4812, (02) 9069 4804 (which called twice), and (02) 9069 4801 (which called three times).
This number has been repeatedly calling me, even after I answered the first time and clearly stated that I was not interested in their calls. It is becoming quite bothersome.
I received a call from someone named Brenda claiming to be from CBA regarding a money transfer. It was clearly an automated voice message and I suspect it is yet another phone scam attempt.
I received a call from someone named 'Brenda' who claimed to be from the Commonwealth Bank. She had an Australian accent and it was a recorded message. She stated that my debit card had been used to attempt a bitcoin purchase, but I do not possess a debit card. I decided to hang up.
On June 19, 2023, I received a call from (02) 9069 4800, claiming to be from Commonwealth Bank. I immediately hung up and blocked the number. Shortly thereafter, I received another call from (02) 9069 4804, where they claimed to be from Commonwealth Securities or the security department. I hung up again, blocked that number as well, and reported both calls to Scamwatch as advised by the ACMA website.
The caller claimed to be from "Visa/Mastercard security." Realizing it was a scam, I asked why he was calling me, and he quickly hung up. The call had an Indian accent and sounds typical of a call center scam.
I received a call on a Saturday morning, which is unusual. Upon answering, I heard a brief automated message claiming to be from PayPal, alerting me to a suspicious purchase of $299. They suggested that I press 1 to discuss the matter, but I hung up immediately. I then logged into my PayPal account, which showed no issues. When I answered, there was a typical delay before a male voice with an Indian accent claimed to be from my 'bank's security department.' When I asked which bank, there was another delay before he said 'Commonwealth Bank.' When I responded that I don’t have an account with them, he quickly changed his answer to 'ANZ.' This interaction clearly seemed like a scam.
I received an automated message from this number, claiming my account would be auto-renewed for $99.99. They stated I would enjoy Amazon Prime services, but if I wanted to cancel, I had to press 1 to speak to their cancellation department. This clearly seems like a scam.
I don’t answer my phone any more because of calls like this, not in my contacts I won’t answer. It didn’t go to Voicemail and they just hung up - blocked.
