The phone number 02 9057 7085 / 0290577085 has raised red flags among Australians, with users reporting it as a suspected scam. Calls from this number typically involve an automated voice claiming to be associated with eBay, specifically stating it pertains to card collections. In a world rife with fraud, it’s vital to discern legitimate calls from those looking to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

The Scam Explained

Users have reported receiving a call from this number on 16 February 2024, where a female robotic voice delivered a pre-recorded message. It explained that there was a debit order on their card that required approval to release. The alarming aspect of this interaction is the mention of money and the urgency often typical of scams. It’s crucial to recognise that legitimate companies, like eBay, do not operate in this manner when it comes to financial inquiries or card collections.

Why It’s Classified as a Scam

  • Pre-Recorded Messages: Scammers often employ automated calls to reach a larger audience, creating an impression of a high volume of important communications.
  • No Prior Transactions: The absence of any actual orders or transactions connected to the reporting individuals further adds to the suspicion level.
  • Urgency and Pressure: Scammers thrive on urgency to elicit rapid, unconsidered responses from victims, which is evident in the message prompting immediate action regarding funds.

What to Do If You Receive a Call

If you find yourself receiving a call from 02 9057 7085 / 0290577085 or a similar number:
