    Continually getting calls from 0290372144.0290372134 and 0290374222 (same number range).

    Tried to offer financial advice & even told me to calm down when I told them I wasn't interested.

    Called the number - "Optus advises that the number you have called has been disconnected".

    FYI, this is the scam tactic... You call, they tell you that you have an arrest warrant on you because of [made up charge / traffic violation / tax bill], but that it can be taken care of over the phone by credit card.

    This is a new scam method. If you have an arrest warrant outstanding a) it won't generally be from a court in a different state, and b) they wouldn't leave an automated message (chances are, the police would be knocking on your door instead).

    Received 3 calls today from this number - hard to understand but sounded like it was about a warrant for my arrest. Did not call it back. Sounded fake.

    Had three calls from this number today and it leaves a recorded message saying there is a warrant for my arrest. When you ring it back it has a busy message. Someone should investigate this number.

    Just received a call which contained a recording of an American male voice saying he was from the taxation dept. And there was a warrant for my arrest, and to ring this number for details - which I didn't ring, instead I went straight to the Government Do Not Call register and joined.

    A recorded message (received twice today) informed me I was to be arrested for tax fraud and I should contact "290372134" before I had to front the county court!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
